At least 50% of us will encounter mental illness in our lifetime. However, If we obtain the right nourishment emotionally & physically from our environment we will be equipped to live a healthy life. To feel safe and secure most of the time is one of our basic needs. If you are being bullied in your workplace, living with a toxic person or in an area where you feel threatened this will impact on your mental wellbeing. Do you feel secure in your environment at home and at work? Are you living with a person who supports you or someone who you are in conflict with and criticises you? Are your finances in order or are you struggling to pay your bills? Do you dislike social situations if you attend alone? Do your fears prevent you from doing some activities that you want to feel safe and secure doing? How are you meeting this need in a healthy way? Too much of a need for safety can also lead us to be risk adverse. This can bring its own issues as parts of life involve an element of risk in order to stretch ourselves and grow.
